About Sunshine Yarns
Sunshine Yarns is a small yarn company based out of Boulder, Colorado that specializes in handpainted and hand dyed sock yarns. This one-woman company, run by knitter/dyer/color lover Dani Frisbie, was founded in the fall of 2005 while she was working as a water resources scientist. She started with just a few dyes and an intense desire for rich, unique colors. Throughout the past four years, her career in the fiber arts has taken over and now she runs Sunshine Yarns full time.
Dyeing the Yarns

Sunshine Yarns handpainted and hand dyed yarns are individually dyed to create a unique color palette and knitted product. Yarns are carefully rinsed and cleaned prior to dyeing. All yarns are dyed in a beautiful array of colors using professional Washfast Acid dyes. Each skein is rinsed in Soak, a gentle fiber-friendly cleanser and dried completely before being reskeined. The reskeining cleans up the skein and mixes up the colors so that it is more representative of what a knitted swatch will look like! Sunshine Yarns uses various dyeing techniques to keep things fresh... such as handpainting, immersion dyeing and overdyeing. Here is more information on the techniques used:

Handpainting There is no better way to apply multiple colors than to hand-paint the colors on! Skeins are laid out on a table and the dye is applied using squeeze bottles.

Mostly Solids Mostly Solid colorways were designed to bring some depth to your knitting even when using a solid colored yarn. These skeins are dyed in a pot, where they are immersed in a single color. When a few key ingredients are left out, the yarn does not soak up the color evenly, creating some variance in the skein.

Overdyes Overdyes are created by immersing the yarn in one color, and then overdyeing it with another. The resulting colors are unique and saturated, perfect for projects that require yarn with depth.
